Our fleet comprises a range of planers and associated vehicles to support the varied work our customers' request. We innovate to drive productivity and are proud to have been the first company in the UK to introduce the Wirtgen W250i, cold milling machine. Used for the first time in conjunction with Keir and Highways England on the M6 junction 10 westbound to junction 2, M54, the W250i was able to plane a full lane in a single pass – offering a capacity to remove 600 tonnes per hour.
At Silverstone, in 2019, we went a step further with 3D modelled planing and GPS position control. The technology on the planer knew its exact location and the precise depth to cut. The planer speed pick spacing, and drum speed were optimized to ensure the exact smooth finish required. This innovation in paving, piloted at Silverstone, has now been transferred to the strategic road network on the A55. Driving productivity, efficiency and safer working.
